A piano dolly makes rolling an upright across a flat floor far easier, but it does not make the piano any lighter. Before you hire or buy one, it is worth knowing what to look for, how to keep everyone safe, and where a dolly is simply not the right tool.
Moving a piano is a difficult to process. An upright piano is one of the largest parts of furniture in any apartment or musical store, but a piano can be relocated properly and safely with some superior powerful guys & a piano dolly. Maintain the pedals very clear of the dolly. There is danger to the piano, chance of physical damage to the moving service and other people and danger of destruction to other asset.
A piano dolly is a level system with four heavy-duty spinning tires generally made of timber, large plastic material and protected with some sort of soft cushioning to secure the furniture getting shifted on it. They can be hired at most shifting shops or can be bought at a lot of home enhancement and components shops. Roll the piano to its location. Pianos are challenging to move and should only be moved by an expert who is cautious, effectively qualified, covered, and the proper devices. An upright piano is the most typical and is simpler to move than a grand piano.
Move the piano apart from any divider or other furniture. Make the path along which you will be shifting the piano. Most pianos have little tires and are reasonably easy to move a small range. You need a lowest of three to five feet of area to use a piano dolly.
Suggest the piano in reverse so that it is at a thirty to forty five degree angle. With one person trying to keep the dolly to keep it from working, have the other people move the piano all over so that it is focused and stable on the dolly. Lift the piano back upright upon the dolly and opposite the process to remove the piano from the dolly. The piano is moved to its new position and taken out from the dolly. The piano should be protected to avoid being damaged or broken. We, Afford Sydney Piano Removals can handle everything for you as your Piano Removal in Sydney.

Choosing the Right Piano Dolly

Not every furniture trolley suits a piano. Look for a piano dolly rated well above the weight of your instrument, with a padded or carpeted top, a base wide enough to support the full depth of the case, and wheels that roll smoothly in every direction.
Test it on your actual floors before moving day. Even good wheels can mark timber or tiles, so lay boards or heavy sheeting along the route, and lift rugs so the wheels cannot catch on an edge and stop dead.
Plan the route from start to finish. Measure doorways, take out door stops, and look for raised thresholds, which can stop a piano dolly suddenly and tip the piano forward. Give one helper the sole job of steadying the case and calling out obstacles while the others push.
Getting the piano onto the dolly is the riskiest moment. Tilt it back only slightly with one person bracing each end, and never let anyone stand in front of or behind the piano where it could fall. If the piano feels unstable at any point, lower it and rethink the plan.
Safety Tips Before You Start
- Wear enclosed shoes and gloves with good grip, and clear the floor of trip hazards
- Never use a dolly on stairs, ramps or steep slopes, even for a single step
- Strap the piano firmly to the dolly before rolling it anywhere
- Push slowly and keep hands and feet clear of the base and wheels
- If the piano starts to lean, step away rather than trying to catch it
- Work through a piano moving checklist before the day
A dolly is fine for shifting an upright to another wall in the same room, but steps, outside paths, ramps into a vehicle and grand pianos call for trained hands. If your move involves any of those, our page on moving upright pianos explains how Piano Removalists Sydney handles it with the right equipment.
